World's first global television-on-demand service for the living room announced by Voddler, Inc.
Available in millions of living rooms when launching next winter, a milestone television-on-demand service was today announced by Voddler, Inc., presenting at the MipTV show in Cannes and simultaneously at the NAB show in Las Vegas. In partnership with content owners and providers of consumer electronics, Voddler will deliver a true living room experience to broadband connected homes around the world, offering instant and free advertising sponsored viewing of an unlimited amount of TV shows and films, as well as pay per view services. The Voddler service is also the first to guarantee TV grade quality of service over the open internet, both in Standard Definition and 720p High Definition, uniquely offering content owners their own secure and geo-controlled distribution channel direct to millions of living room TV sets. Voddler invite here.
"Voddler will revolutionize the world of television when launching in millions of living rooms early next year" says Martin Alsen, President of Voddler, Inc., continuing: "Enabling viewers to freely search, choose and instantly play from the vast archives of television is great. To allow them to do this from the convenience of their living room couches, simply by using their regular remote controls, is even better. Making this high-quality service globally available and free to viewer - with limited and targeted advertising - is huge."
Those canny Swedes have been at it again. Following on from the launch of music service Spotify, Voddler is a new service where the focus is the screen rather than music. Voddler promises to offer a service similar to Spotify except with films and TV shows on demand.
Co-founder Mathias Hjelmstedt told OnSoftware:
“Since 2005, we’ve been working on developing the streaming technology that’s allowed us to conceive this project. It will offer both TV shows and films on demand and eventually will be extended beyond home computing to become part of your living room viewing experience.”
The service is initially being rolled-out in Scandinavia first before being launched in UK and then worldwide and will work on Windows, Mac and Linux. Voddler has been in beta stage since 1st July and the development blog claims that 16,000 people signed-up for it on the first day. Once you’ve entered your name and e-mail address however, you’ll have to be one of the lucky ones selected for beta testing. OnSoftware has been granted an exclusive pass so watch this space for one of the first looks at this exciting app.
